Ok, so I will be giving alot of info in just this one post so be ready, it will jump around!
First things first, we received news about Bella's eye. The consensus is that the chance of this being bad is 1 in 12500 and since the only definate way to tell is to take a biopsy, the risk of surgery is much greater than our 3 month wait and see method. So until told otherwise, this is a good mole and everything is great!! Thank you for your prayers, thoughts and well wishes, they did not go unnoticed!
Secondly, for the Ping Pong Ball Launcher update. Each class had their winners and so now they are off to the school competition and Bella is one of them, WAAHOO!!!! She is sooooo excited to have made it to here and is looking forward to the next level already, lol. I told her that no matter what I was VERY proud of her for just getting it done, turned in on time and getting a perfect grade! I will keep you posted as we have further developments.
I haven't had time to post this or put up pics, but Bella had another project to do on Giza. More specifically, the 3 pyramids, the Nile and the Sphinx. She had to make a model that looked real (using real sand and what not), that was correctly laid out (the Nile to the East and the pyramids facing it) and labeled and then had to write a 200 word essay. I am again VERY proud to say that she got another perfect grade!!! Not to mention her and I had some "bonding" time. You see the glue we used had a habit of getting on our fingers and well, sometimes we didn't notice until we were stuck, lol. I had to help her with the glue because I was afraid she would get stuck to just about everything. Turns out us doing it together wasn't much better.
On a side note, Trav has been laid off for a week now and things are not looking good as far as him going back to work there any time soon. They are merging with another company and will not need but less than half the guys from each company. Trav is about 2/3's the way down at our place. But that just means that something much better is in store and we have seen a few of the things come our way already and are VERY excited by this new adventure we are about to have!

Choroidal Nevus
No, it is not some star in a distant galaxy. Actually it is very close, in fact, it is in my daughters eye.
A choroidal nevus is a "mole" in the eye. Sort of like a mole on your skin, this one just happens to be located in a hard to find spot. I told Bella that she has a beauty mark that goes far beyond those normal pesky freckles that the rest of us have to deal with. I'll let you know if she decides to go with that or not.
Back to the nevus. I say Choroidal Nevus because that is the term we have been given until it is proved to be, well, another name that I am not ready to say and do not want to put out there. The opthamologist was concerned when he found it 2 weeks ago because it is the 2nd largest he has ever seen. The other belonged to a gentleman in his 70's.(A few years older than our 11 year old) So when he ordered a machine that basically takes a ct scan of your eye, aptly called an oct or Optical Coherence Tomography machine, he told us that the tech would be there Friday morning to set it up and they would be done with training about 2:30that afternoon. He asked us if we could come by before the tech left that way the tech could take the scans of her eye since he was not going to be a pro at it yet. Well of corse we agreed!! On a side note Trav was very interested in this as he has had many ct scans, but not of a body part this far North.
I'll skip the part about how the new receptionist is crotchity, the power went out for over 2 hours and our 4:30 appmt turned into a 6:00 appmt and get right to the point.(Notice I was nice and skipped over that part, cause at the time, I don't think I would have been that nice, unfortunately) So the tech takes several scans because the mole is too large for him to get it all.
Now, I am by no means up to par on the parts of the eye, much less looking at them by ct scans. So after several questions and discussion we learn that not only is it very large, the blood vessels by it are also bigger in size than the others, and not by a little. Now at this point there is only 1 question that I want to ask, having dealt with Trav and what he went thru, I do know a bit about enlarged blood vessels. But I don't think it wise to ask since Bella is still in the room.
She knows she has a mole, of course, but we told her that it is like an invisible freckle on her eye and that is where we are leaving it until we receive news otherwise. We are praying that we do not have to change our story to her and would love if you all would too!
The Dr is sending the scans out to a few other Dr's and hospitals/research facilities to get their opinions and feedback. I feel confident in his ability and love that he is pursuing this with others since he isn't comfortable with a few of the factors in this mess. Plus, I know that he is a man of faith and that gives me comfort as well.
She is supposed to go every 3 months for more scans unless we find out something from the other opinions. I will post again when we know more. I needed to get it out so here it is and thanks for understanding!

Really?
Tomorrow is our Daughters birthday and she will be 11. We have been shopping for over a week for clothes, shoes, purses, earrings, belts, and so on. We have been to 2 malls and about 30 stores outside of that and managed to get some good deals but more importantly, very cool clothes!! You should have seen her face when we laid them all out & put the outfits together with all of the accessories. What a priceless memory!!
Jump forward 2 days to this hot & muggy Tuesday. We got her a phone. Yes her 1st cell phone. We could have taken back everything we had bought the week before and she wouldn't have minded a bit. I think there was a power surge at the store her smile was so big and bright!
Now for the kicker. She took the thing, right out of the box and started using it. Mind you she has not ever used this kind before, only mine or Travs Razr's. This is not even the same brand. Within 10 minutes she is texting, has a good amount of #'s in her phonebook and has changed the background and ringtones. So I proceed to tell her how proud I am that she has figured it out all on her own, she is very smart. NOT SO MUCH!!! Because she didn't even see the next sentence coming. "Wow, so if you are so smart that you can get your phone going so quickly without help, SURELY you are going to have a GREAT year at school!!!"
silence.....
"Really?" "Mom, this is different! This is just a phone! Phones are fun! I like using my phone! If I dial the wrong # I don't get into trouble or a bad grade!" And my favorite..."Mom, uhhhhh, never mind."
Really? That got me thinking. I remember that our son had a time memorizing his multiplication tables, but the 4352 (just a guess) pokemon were not a problem. He did come around and is actually very good in math now, along with his other subject. In fact he starts college this fall. But that is another post.
So, perhaps this is the start of when she realizes that Mom and Dad are not above bribery and will use the phone to get what they want out of her. After all, I am an old pro now, right? I mean, what kind of parent uses the Power Rangers, Pokemon, TMNT, the Nintendo, the Playstation, the GameCube, the XBox and so on as a means of motivation?
Me. Really!!!
